Ali Günertem

Ali joined BetterWorld Telecom (“BWT”) in the fall of 2003 and brings over 18 years of experience to BWT. He is responsible of the Company’s day-to-day customer issues, provisioning and technical support. Prior to joining BWT, Ali worked as the General Manager at Cities Restaurant Group, based in Washington, D.C. He has extensive experience working at sales, managing staff, coordinating events, fundraising, accounting and networking. He received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Marmara University at Istanbul, Turkey.

Ali currently sits on TURKOFAMERICA, a New York-based publication, as well as ATAA President’s advisory board. He is also an editorial advisor for Turkish Policy Quarterly, an Istanbul-based journal that provides an international forum for practitioners, opinion leaders and researchers on Turkey’s foreign policy. He is married and has a daughter. He currently resides in Alexandria, VA.

Ayşe Önal Zamboğlu

Ayse Onal Zamboglu is an active member of the Turkish-American community. She is the California Representative and a staff writer at the Turk of America magazine. She held editor, writer and contributor roles at various published and online media and was responsible for the Turkish language content of the Google products. Ms. Zamboglu previously held different board positions at Turkish American Association of California, Turkish American Business Connection Association and METU Alumni Northern California, serving the Turkish American community and fostering strong ties between Turkey and the United States.

Ms. Zamboglu holds two master’s degrees, in education and in polymer science. She is a chemist by training, and is currently working at an emerging Bay Area pharmaceutical company, responsible for scale-up manufacturing of their novel drug delivery platform. Her passion is to share her experience in the science field with professionals and scientists in Turkey, and is currently working on founding a platform to facilitate active information exchange between the two countries. Ms. Zamboglu is married and a proud mother of a boy.

Burçak Akduman

Mr. Burcak Akduman has served in several senior management positions in diverse industries in Arabian Gulf Countries, Europe and United States. He has played pivotal roles in 4 successful multimillion dollars start-up operations in New York City and Dubai for the last 8 years. He has involved in several special projects development and implementation for the last 20 years.

Projects include IPOs, private placements, long-term bond issuance, long term investment loans arrangements, trade finance models, barter deals, asset-backed securitization deals (music royalties & revenues, future flow sales receivables), launching multi-store chain operations and brand building. He is the project manager of Turkey’s first-ever Asset Backed Securitization deal on corporate level which was closed in September 1998.

Over the years, he has earned invaluable experience in contracts management and developed top-notch negotiation skills. He has personally involved in negotiating several key contracts with companies operating in the public and private sectors. Some examples of successfully closed contracts are as follows: In Saudi Arabia: Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC). In Germany: Westdeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale (West LB). Erhan Turhan

Ertan TURHAN – General Director / Show TV – News Special / Net Adv. Chairman of the Board, was born in Istanbul. Following graduation in 1987 from the University of Istanbul, Faculty of Communications, Department of Radio-Television-Cinema, he completed his graduate degree from the same. He continued with graduate degree in ME program at the University of Yeditepe in 1997. He is now engaged in doctorate degree in Media&Economics at the University of Yeditepe.

His career in television started in 1991 with the TRT Istanbul Television “and in 1992, he was transferred to Show TV. He was the producer of news programs such as “PANAROMA”, “MEDIA CLUB”, “ARENA” undertaken by the Hürriyet TV Productions and broadcast in Show TV and Channel 6.

Between 1995-2000, he produced prime-news programs, he undertook production and management of newscasts and prime-news broadcasted in Channel D. During the same years he also undertook production of adverts of Izmir Culture-Art Festival and “Hürriyet” and “Aksam” papers.

In 2000, he became the producer of “News Ozel” in Channel D. Transferred to Show TV in 2002 and also set up “Net Advertising-Computer Co.” engaging in tv-internet-publication-consultancy. He is still with Show TV as the General Director of “News Special” and Chairman of the Board in Net Advertising Co.

Turhan is continuing his work as television news programmer, consultancy in internet, magazine and publication and television producer/manager in New York PROMAX-BDA organization.”

Prof. Dr. Faruk Şen

Prof. Dr. Faruk Şen, 1948 yılında Ankara’da doğdu. Orta öğrenimine İstanbul Alman Lisesi’nde devam eden Şen, 1970′lı yılların başında geldiği Federal Almanya’da Münster Üniversitesi’nde işletme ekonomisi öğrenimini gördü. Doktora tezini “Federal Almanya’da Kurulan Türk İşçi Şirketleri” konusunda yazan Faruk Şen, daha sonra Bamberg ve Essen Üniversitelerinde öğretim görevlisi olarak çalıştı.

1 Ekim 1985 tarihinden bu yana kuruluşuna aktif olarak katıldığı Türkiye Araştırmalar Merkezini yönetti. Haziran 1990′da profesör olan Prof. Dr. Şen 2008 Ekim ayından itibaren Türk Alman Eğitim ve Bilimsel Araştırmalar Vakfı’nın Mütevelli Heyeti Başkanı olarak, Türkiye’de kurulacak ve Almanca eğitim verecek, Türk-Alman üniversitesinin kuruluş çalışmalarının yürütüldüğü Essen bürosunda Türkiye’ye yeni bir vakıf üniversitesi kazandırmak üzere çalışmalarına yoğun bir şekilde devam etmekte ve yanı sıra Essen Üniversitesi’nde ekonomi dersleri vermektedir.

Günay Evinç

Günay Evinch (Övünç) is the President of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations(ATAA), which serves as the voice for over 500,000 Turkish Americans and an interlocutor between the United States and Turkey in Washington, DC. The ATAA’s first American-born President, Evinch was born in Chicago in 1963 to immigrants from Aegean Turkey. He grew up in San Francisco and now resides in the Washington DC.

Evinch is a principal at the Washington DC law firm of Saltzman & Evinch. Evinch successfully defended Turkey and the Turkish Land Forces in the Cyprus lands claim case of Crist v. Turkey. His firm is now defending Turkey in the land claims case of Toumazou v.Turkey and TRNC.

Evinch serves on the National Board of Directors of the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) along side WACA President, Ambassador Marc Grossman.

Evinch was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in international law at the Ankara University Human Rights Center, where he researched the Armenian allegation of genocide and PKK terrorism (1991-93). He earned his Juris Doctor from Washington & Lee University (W&L) School of Law, Virginia (1991) where he received the General Lee Grant, completed an EU Legal Studies Program at the University of Madrid on the College of William and Mary International Law Project (1989), and double majored in Economics and Public Service at the University of California, Davis (UCD) (1986) where he received the UC Regents Outstanding Seniors Award.

Evinch interned with the San Francisco District Attorney and Sacramento Federal Public Defender in 1985, and was a paralegal in complex business litigation in San Francisco (1986-88). He also interned at the San Mateo District Office of the late Congressman Tom Lantos (1981-82). Evinch served as student body President of the W&L School of Law and Vice President of the College of San Mateo, and was a counselor for international relations and upper-division students at UCD.

Günay Evinch is married to Senem. They have a five-year old daughter, Lara and a newborn son, Arda.

Huseyin Unver has been the Board Member and the Treasurer of BOHP since its establishment in 2005. Huseyin, after 34 years of international banking and corporate experience, is now managing his own company, Unver & Unver LLC, through which he provides consulting and international and local business solutions for foreign and U.S. companies. He is also an adjunct professor at Berkeley College, New York where he teaches International Finance, International Trade, International Marketing, International Economics and Macroeconomics.

In addition to BOHP, Huseyin is also a Board Member of the Turkish American Chamber of Commerce, and the Turkish American Business Forum. Huseyin has also served as the President of the American Turkish Society from 1989 to 1999.

Huseyin holds B.A. and M.B.A. degrees, both from Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of New York.

Jennifer Eaton Gökmen

A resident of Turkey since 1994, American writer Jennifer Eaton Gokmen is co-editor of the critically-acclaimed, international bestselling anthology Tales from the Expat Harem: Foreign Women in Modern Turkey. She is a regular contributor to Turkish national newspaper Hurriyet Daily News’ Expert Talk column, and her writing has appeared in National Geographic Traveler, Time Out Istanbul, Perceptive Travel, among other venues. Fluent in Turkish, Gokmen is a frequent guest on Turkish television and previously co-hosted a Turkish talk show about expatriatism on state channel TRT International. She holds a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing and has served as the Development Director for Istanbul International Community School since 2001.

Mehmet Çelebi

Mehmet was born in Syria to a Turkish mother and a Syrian father of Turkish origin. After moving to the US in 1988, he received a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and International Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and briefly attended the University of Illinois at Chicago’s MBA Program.

Mehmet worked in management capacity at some of the world’s largest financial institutions. He has been consulting some of the largest corporations in Turkey on M&A in addition to international funds wishing to invest in Turkey and the region. He was instrumental in bringing the largest managed money fund in the world to Turkey in 2006 (the Russell 20/20 Fund) where he organized a week long meetings with the Prime Minister as well as high level officials and business leaders of Turkey.

In 2005, he started an entertainment company called BMH Worldwide Entertainment with two partners and offices in Chicago and Los Angeles to produce Hollywood films in Europe, Turkey and the Middle East. He produced the first ever Turkish-Hollywood Television Production; brought world-class celebrities to television programs; participated in Hollywood film projects; represented Arab Radio Television (ART) in the acquisition of Turkish television programming- and raised funds for film projects.

In 2008, he formed RBM with his partners in Turkey to organize major entertainment events. Through this partnership and partnership, he formed Baykam & RBM with his partners which made an alliance with IMG, the world’s largest modeling and talent agency, to organize the first ever Istanbul Fashion Week titled “Fashionable Istanbul” which brought some of the most elite fashion designers and models to Istanbul including Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo, Missoni, Ferre and Vivienne Westwood. With this annual event, he aims to make Istanbul a regional fashion capital and one of the world’s elite fashion centers.

Mehmet has worked with various political leaders from Turkey as well as other countries on issues dealing with Turkish-American relations and the region at large for many years, and is considered one of the national leaders of the Turkish-American community in the US. He served as the President of the Turkish-American Cultural Alliance (2000-2006), and as a Member of the Board/Vice-President of the Assembly of Turkish-American Associations (2001-2006); a Washington, DC based umbrella organization representing 61 organizations in the US and Canada. When he was elected to the said organizations, he was the youngest leader to ever take office in his community.

Mehmet also helped establish several Turkish-American professional organizations where he still sits on their Advisory Boards. He also served on the Board of the National Association of Investment and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) in 2005.

Mehmet also served on the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations’ Task Force on “Strengthening America: The Civic and Political Integration of Muslim Americans”.

Mehmet is the co-founder of the Turkish-Greek Friendship Committee, along with the Very Reverend Demetri Kantzavelos, Bishop of the Chicago Diocese of the Greek Orthodox Church in America. He was also one of the first Turkish-American community leaders to establish a dialogue and meetings with the Armenian-American community.

Since 2008, Mehmet has been serving on the Dean’s International Council at the Harris School of Public Policy, at the University of Chicago. He is currently developing joint programs between the University of Chicago and Turkish universities as well as other programs.

Mehmet is the first Turkish-American to ever receive a nomination by a US Presidential campaign, as he was nominated as a Delegate by Senator Hillary Clinton from the 13th Congressional District and became the Regional Co-Chair of the Finance Committee of the Hillary Clinton Campaign. Mehmet also served on the Campaigns’ Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee.

Mehmet has also worked on the political campaigns of several US Congressmen and Senators in Illinois and Wisconsin, as well as politicians running for office throughout the United States.

Mehmet is fluent in English, Turkish, Arabic and Spanish. He has been married for 12 years and has 2 children Eren (7) and Emre (4).

Mona Diamond

Mona Tekin Diamond became the Turkish Honorary Consul General for the State of Georgia in 2005. In the same year, she became the Chairman of The American Turkish Friendship Council, a not for profit organization for the promotion of close relations between the United States and Turkey. Ms. Diamond is the founder of the Turkish Lecture Series at Emory University, an endowed lecture series. Being deeply committed to education, she is working with Emory University as a member of the President’s International Advisory Council, with the aim of bringing Turkish Students to Emory University. She also sits on the President’s Advisory Board at Oglethorpe University. She has obtained a grant from the Turkish government in order to have the Turkish language taught at Georgia State University. Mona is also partnering with ACEV Foundation of Turkey (Mother Child Education Foundation) and a Board Member of the Turkish Philanthropic Foundation, USA.

Ms. Diamond is dedicated to helping promote trade between Turkey and the U.S. Mona is a member of the Atlanta Women`s Network, the International Business Academy (IBAL), and the Atlantic Council. She also serves on the Board of the World Chamber of Commerce and the International Board of Global Executive Women. Mona is also a member of American Israel Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Center for International Studies. Ms. Diamond works closely with TABA (Turkish American Business Association), DEIK, TAIK, TOBB-USA, and TUSIAD-USA as well as all Chambers of Commerce in Turkey.

In 2003-04, Ms. Diamond was Vice President of the Turkish American Cultural Association of Georgia. In 2003, she received The Turkish Women`s League of America award for her successful efforts and help to the Turkish American Cultural Association of Georgia. She has been a member of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations for many years. She is also a member of the Ataturk Society in Washington, D.C. In 2002, she received the “Women of Distinction” award from Daughters of Ataturk acknowledging her contributions to the Turkish community. She has just joined the Global Strategic Leadership Forum. Ms. Diamond sits on the National Board as well as the Atlanta Board of the American Jewish Committee. In 2000, she received the Women of Achievement Award representing the American Jewish Committee.

Assoc. Prof. Murat Tarımcılar


Murat Tarimcilar is the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs at George Washington University School of Business. He is an Associate Professor of Decision Sciences and has been a faculty member at George Washington University since 1999. Prior to assuming his role as Graduate Programs Dean, he held the position of Chair of the Decision Sciences Department. His areas of expertise include multi-criteria decision models, applications of Operations Research methods in different business settings, Bayesian Decision Analysis and Production Rate Optimization. Dr. Tarimcilar holds an editorial position with INFORMS Transactions on Education.

Dr. Tarimcilar’s current research focuses on business and public sector applications of various decision models. His research has been published in Management Science, Decision Sciences, OR letters, Socio-economic Planning Journal, Annals of Regional Science and The Financial Review. Dr. Tarimcilar’s policy work at the World Bank is also published by The World Bank Policy Research series. His consulting clients include BSA, World Bank, Bose Corporation, Department of Defense, Turkish Finance Ministry, Oscar Meyer, and the Venezuela Health Ministry. He was the founding partner and served as the managing director of GST Associates, a process design and strategy consulting company.

Dr. Tarimcilar is one of the founding members of a new research center within the School of Business, the Institute for Integrating Statistics in Decision Sciences (I2SDS). The Institute’s research emphasis is on Bayesian thinking and associated computing, probability elicitation, utility assessment and approaches for effective decision-making.

Dr. Tarimcilar teaches courses in Managerial Statistics, Operations Management and Decision Models. He has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Outstanding and Excellent MBA Teaching Award five years in a row.

He earned his PhD in Business Administration and Quantitative Business Analysis from Louisiana State University, as well as a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Bogazici University in Turkey.

Naim Güleryüz

Mr. Naim Güleryüz is the President of the 500.Yil Vakfi (Quincentennial Foundation) in Istanbul, established in 1989 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the welcoming of the Jews to the Ottoman Empire after their expulsion from Spain in 1492.

He has a deep knowledge and understanding of the history of the Jewish community in the Ottoman Empire, as well as in modern-day Turkey. Mr. Güleryüz has been writing articles for the local and foreign press for several years and also given many lectures on the topic, in Turkey and abroad. He has, to date, published six books: Istanbul Sinagoglari and Türk Yahudileri Tarihi in Turkish, The History of Turkish Jews and 700 Years of Togetherness in English, The Synagogues of Turkey (2 Volumes) and The Album of the Jewish Museum of Turkey in both Turkish and English. He is now preparing new books for 2010. Mr. Güleryüz is the project coordinator and curator of the Jewish Museum of Turkey, inaugurated in November 2001 and he has been the pioneer of the re-organisation of the Jewish weekly Shalom in Istanbul in 1984 Born in Istanbul in 1933, Mr. Güleryüz is a graduate of the Istanbul Faculty of Law. He is fluent in Turkish, French, English, Spanish and Judeo-Spanish.

Osman Bengür

Osman Bengur is a businessman who has almost 30 years of experience as a public and corporate finance investment banker and entrepreneur.

Mr. Bengur is co-founder and is currently CEO of PJPA, LLC, a Papa John’s Pizza Franchisee that owns and operates 50 Papa John’s Pizza stores in Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. PJPA is one of the largest franchisees in the Papa John’s Pizza system.

Mr. Bengur has been active in politics. He was the first Turkish American to run for a seat in the US Congress. He also served as Treasurer of the Maryland Democratic Party and worked as a special assistant to the Governor of Maine.

He is an advisor and columnist for TURKOFAMERICA magazine and has published various articles and op-ed pieces on politics and Turkish-U.S. issues. He currently writes a political and business blog for an online publication, www.citybizlist.com.

Mr. Bengur is a recipient of the “Turkish-American of the Year” Award from the New York Federation of Turkish American Associations and the Assembly of Turkish-American Associations (2002) and was honored with the 2006 Daughters of Ataturk “Vision and Courage Award”. In the Baltimore area where he resides, Mr. Bengur has served as a board member of various not for profit agencies.

Mr. Bengur was born in Washington DC of Turkish parents and his three children. He is a 1971 graduate of Princeton University and received a Graduate Diploma in Criminology from the University of Cambridge, England.

Ozan Düzalan

Ozan Düzalan – 1968 yılında İzmir’de doğdu. 1985 yılında İzmir Türk Koleji’nden mezun oldu. 1986 yılında Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Mühendislik Fakültesi Makina Mühendisliği bölümünü kazandı. 1989 yılında tekstil sektöründe faaliyet gösteren aile şirketinde çalışmaya başladı.

1993 yılında hazır giyim sektöründe pek çok markanın satışının yapıldığı mağazacılığa başladı. Tekstil sektöründe toptan ve perakende alanında büyük tecrübe kazandı. Tekstilin trendini kaybetmeye başlamasıyla gelişmekte olarak sektörlere yöneldi. 2000 yılında gıda sektörüne, 2008 yılında da FMCG (hızlı tüketim malları) dağıtım sektörüne girdi. Pek çok şirketin yönetim kuruluna hissedar olarak katıldı. 2005 yılında İzmir’de faaliyet gösteren Türkiye’nin önde gelen alkollü içecek firmalarından birine, 2007 yılında kurulan İzmir’in ilk havayolu firmasına iştirak etti. 2009 yılında ABD’de internet teknolojisi yatırımı ile bilişim sektörüne de adım Düzalan, İzmir merkezli pek çok iş ve sosyal derneğin üyesi.

Prof. Türker Özdoğan

Prof. Türker Özdoğan was born in Izmit in 1944. He received his initial ceramics training and Master of Ceramics diploma at the Applied Fine Arts School in Istanbul. He was awarded apprenticeship at Eczacibasi Ceramic Factory and at Fürst Adolf Werkstatte Für Keramik Buckeburg in Germany. Özdoğan continued his formal studies in the United States at the Corcoran School of Art and at George Washington University, where he received his M.F.A. degree. Subsequent to a three-year faculty appointment at Federal City College, he joined the faculty at the George Washington University, establishing its Ceramics Program where he continues to serve as director.

Reflecting his own ambitious and varied exploration of the ceramics medium, his demonstration methods often dictated the kind of work with which he engaged, while the ceramics program provided an exceptionally broad range of courses, encompassing functional, sculptural, architectural, and industrial ceramics. Parallel to the range of teaching, the artist’s oeuvre encompasses functional, sculptural, architectural, and industrial ceramics.

He continues to explore an academic interest in Native American, Central Asian, Siberian and Anatolian cultures. As a practicing professional artist, Özdoğan has achieved national and international recognition through a variety of research grants and awards, juried expositions, and exhibitions.

These have had varied venues including, most notable, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the International Monetary Fund, the World bank, Meridian House, and the United Nations Plaza, Turkevi Gallery. His ceramic art has been reviewed and featured on television, in newspapers and periodicals, as well as reproduced in texts on ceramics. Prof. Özdoğan’s works have been widely collected and contained in many public and private collections in the United States and abroad, including the George Washington University Permanent Collection, and Kale Ceramics Museum in Turkey.

Uğur Terzioğlu

20 Ekim 1933’te Türkiye’nin gözde tatil mekanlarından Milas’ta dünyaya gelen Uğur Terzioğlu, farklı sektörlerde elde ettiği tecrübe ve çevresi ile Türk iş dünyasının renkli simalarından biri. 1954 yılında Robert Koleji’nden mezun olduktan sonra Pacific Institute of California’da lisans, Cost Üniversitesi’nde işletme bölümünde 1956 yılında doktorasını tamamladı.

İş hayatına babasının kurduğu zeytinyağı işi yapan Terzizade A.Ş.’de 1956 yılında adım atan Terzioğlu, 1960 yılına kadar şirketin başında kaldı. 1962-1970 yılları arasında Kimyagerler A.Ş. genel müdürlüğünü yaptı. 1965 yılında “Son Darbe” filmiyle prodüktör olarak sinema dünyasına adım atan Terzioğlu, yine 1960’larda “Konuşan Gözler”, “Ölüm Yaklaşıyor”, “Eşkiya”, gibi filmlere yatırım yaptı. İtalyan yönetmen Antonio Margheriti tarafından çekilen “The World of Your” filminde ve 1984 yılında Fransız yönetmen Jean-Marie Pallardy tarafından çekilen “White Fire” filminde de uluslararası film endüstrisinin ünlü isimleriyle prodüktör olarak çalıştı. 42 yıldır Cannes Film Festivali’ne devamlı katıldığı için ödülle onurlandırılan Terzioğlu, halen Türkiye’nin önde gelen film şirketlerinden biri olan EPS Filmcilik İç ve Dış Ticaret A. Ş.’nin sahibi. Terzioğlu, 1987’de kurucularından olduğu TABA AmCham’de ikinci kez başkanlık yapan tek isim.

Türkiye’nin en büyük inşaat projelerinden biri olarak kabul edilen Bolu Dağı geçişini sağlayan Gümüşova-Gerede Anadolu Otobanı’nın müteahhidi İtalyan Astaldi S.p.A.İnşaat şirketinin 25 yılı aşkın zamandır Türkiye Genel Koordinatörlüğünü yapan Terzioğlu, İtalyan hükümeti bakanlar kurulunun önerisi ve Cumhurbaşkanı’nın onayı ile 2005 yılında Şövalye madalyası ile ödüllendirilmiş bir işadamı. İtalya’nın yanı sıra Fransa hükümetinden de şövalye nişanı alan Terzioğlu, International Leaders Association’ın “Business Leader” ödülü sahibi.

Prof. Dr. Yener Erozan, MD

Dr. Erozan completed his fellowship in Cytopathology under the mentorship of John K Frost, MD in 1964 and then spent the great majority of his career at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He briefly left The Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1965, and relocated to his home country Turkey for a few years where he was on faculty at one of the most prestigious medical schools in Turkey, The Hacettepe University in Ankara. Shortly thereafter, he returned to Johns Hopkins to resume his outstanding career in academic cytopathology.

Over the years, he became the director of the cytopathology laboratory, and was promoted to professorship in 1995. Dr. Erozan published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, numerous book chapters, two books ( Erozan YS, and Bonfiglio TA (Eds): Fine Needle Aspiration of Subcutaneous Organs and Masses.

He has been an Associate editor of Acta Cytologica since 1992. Dr. Erozan served as the President of the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC), and received many high honors including the Papanicolaou Award of the ASC, and the educator of the year award of the Papanicolau Society of Cytopathology.

Dr. Erozan continues to inspire newer generations of cytopathologists by his relentless active involvement in professional societies including the Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology. His lifelong dedication to cytopathology, both with his research and his teaching, continues to touch the lives of many patients and students of medicine at every level from residents, fellows to practicing pathologists.
